If there is one kind of marathon that people LOVE to watch, it would be Law and Order. So that's how we know that when we hear that Jennifer Love Hewitt could possibly be tapped for a female lead in SVU, that it's a pretty big deal for the actress!
Mariska Hartigay, the usual female lead, has just closed the deal on returning for the 13th season, which is fantastic in its own right. However, it'll be her last in that position? and she'll have to leave the spot for a worthy successor ? where Jennifer could be stepping in!
Benson (Hartigay's character) will be promoted to a supervisor position, with a new female detective taking her place. That is the role that the producers are eying Hewitt for. Hewitt is not a stranger to SVU - she did a memorable guest appearance this past fall.
Sounds like a perfect situation for Jennifer, because we know she'll just slay that part after that guest appearance!
Meloni is also expected to sign back on with Mariska, but things are going a little slower for his deal because it's reported that he's looking for a raise from the $400k per episode he gets now.
