Those faded shorts with the broken elastic are really due for the garbage can, so just let them retire. The swim trunks you have had for five years, they are ready for the donation pile. Put away all those well-loved t-shirts, save them for gardening or weekend projects. A well-deserved vacation on the Riviera Maya begins with new threads, however there are a couple of fashion rules to keep in mind.
Still wearing sock with sandals? Stop it right now! No socks are permitted with anything other than athletic shoes, dress shoes or boots. Sandals and flip flops are designed to keep the feet cool in hot weather, while still providing comfort and protection. If you are uncomfortable showing your bare feet, then choose a pair of sandals that cover the entire foot but still have small openings to allow air flow ? and do not wear socks with them. If that is not possible, then stick to regular shoes with socks.
Unless you are a swimsuit model, don?t expect to look like a swimsuit model. Don?t expect that as soon as you hit the beach every other man there will have the physique of a model either. Just be yourself. There is no need to have your back and chest waxed, unless of course you are often mistaken for Big Foot. Then it might be a good idea just to prevent frightening small children and clogged up drains in the resort swimming pools.
Assess your body type before choosing a new set of swim trunks. It may require the assistance of your partner or a friend, but knowing your body type will make it easier to choose a flattering swim suit. For example, if you are tall and skinny do not choose anything with vertical stripes. Horizontal patterns in lighter colors give the illusion of more breadth and girth. Gentlemen on the short and stocky side of the scale should never wear clothing that is either too small or too large. Both extremes only serve to make them look shorter and heavier than they actually are. Instead, choose swim suits with no pleating, and legs that end at mid-thigh. Solid colors or vertical stripes are best.
The most important aspect of choosing new beachwear (shorts, shoes and swim suits) is comfort. If you loath clothes shopping (and most men with a tired wardrobe do), it is time to accept the inevitable and just get it done. Get it done, but get it done properly. Do not go into a store, choose quickly, pay and leave. Try on the items you choose, even if it is exactly the same as what you already own ? clothing manufacturers change the cut of clothing almost every season. So try everything on to ensure maximum comfort and functionality. Only then will you be ready for the fun under the Cancun sun!
