MONOCHROME is back. Yes, the trend that started with Coco Chanel, that was championed by Audrey Hepburn and carried through by Yves Saint Laurent is back on the style pages and its time that fashionista?s across the country turned to the right page and got black, white and stylish all over!
While lots of ladies have wardrobes full of black clothes (including as part of their summer fashion wardrobe because it looks flattering), many don?t optimise their black numbers by matching them with the latest, and lightest, ?in? colour ? white.
Though you may think black and white is just too boring, remember that on this season?s summer fashion runways, Oscar de la Renta showed off his stunning monochrome suits. The collection featured box jackets with short sleeves and apple-shape skirts with a chic pattern that looked like it had been drawn on in black pen. Together with the models? slicked-back pony hairstyles, the monochrome look was instantly brought bang-up-to-date.
British designer brand Jaeger gave full-length black maxi skirts a modern twist by matching them with sleeveless white blazers over transparent white tees ? a look that?s been mirrored at the high-street home of monochrome, Zara.
To bring the look up to date further, add texture or print, with graphic lines, silk materials and ruffles to further enhance the two bold colours. Jonathan Saunders Edition at Debenhams has released a pair of monochrome wedges which when matched with a staple black wardrobe will bring in the summer fashion trend with a bang.
If monochrome leaves you feeling pale, then add accessories, such as a chunky white necklace or a woven black and white bag, or bangles to liven up your summer fashion wardrobe.
The great thing about this summer fashion is that it can suit anyone regardless of what colour skin you have. But the real key to pulling of the monochrome look is to go big and go bold when you wear black and white.
